Canaletas, the drinking water fountain manufacturer, has participated in a study carried out by Laboratorio Dr. Oliver Rodés, promoted by the Association of Water Cooler Distributors and Bottlers (ADEAC). This project analysed 100 samples taken from water coolers, as well as from network water drinking fountains. The results of the analyses, ratified by Dr Antoni Borrell, scientific and innovation director of Laboratorio Dr. Oliver Rodés, conclude that all samples analysed indicate the absence of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
“All surfaces examined,” explains Jordi Morera, Director General of Canaletas, “are free of COVID-19, confirming again that drinking from a drinking water fountain is a safe practice. Of course,” he added, “it is necessary to follow basic health regulations, such as cleaning fountains more frequently than usual with disinfectant.”
To carry out the study, common points of contact with the drinking water fountains were analysed. In the case of bottle water coolers, the samples were taken from buttons or levers and the water outlet area. With drinking water fountains and POU water coolers connected to the main, the buttons, the jets from which users drink directly and the ends of the bottle/cup fillers were analysed.
As Jordi Morera explains, “We have many years of experience of producing drinking water fountains for the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Both require very strict hygiene measures.” Faced with the crisis caused by COVID-19 and the growing need to implement more and increased hygiene measures, Canaletas now offers new “hands-free” models of drinking water fountains, which can be used without needing to touch them with the hands; as well as the “pedal kit”, an accessory which can be attached to drinking water fountains, allowing existing drinking water fountains to be converted into hands-free models. The crisis has led to new consumption habits, and Canaletas is responding to them, being the only manufacturer to offer two options: either purchasing a new hands-free drinking water fountain; or, aware that not all clients can currently afford to do so, the possibility of adapting the drinking water fountain they currently use.
