Exports to the Arab world made up 23% of our total exports in 2021. Canaletas has become the leading brand in this region thanks to its high quality.
For 55 years, Canaletas has been manufacturing and selling drinking water fountains internationally. Its headquarters are in El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona, although it sells water fountains and water dispensers in every part of Spain and is now present in countries all over the world.
The turnover for 2021 places Canaletas at pre-pandemic export levels, a very positive result for the company, and a growth that has continued during the first quarter of the year with a 52% increase compared to 2021. Regarding the global figure for this first quarter, the company has also registered a growth of 58%, also at pre-pandemic levels.
Last year, Canaletas increased its exports of drinking water fountains and water dispensers to Arab countries. Saudi Arabia maked up 12% of the total, only behind France (16%) and Portugal (15%). The Arab world (Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia) accounted for a total of 23% of the exports of Canaletas.
Thanks to its active R&D department, responsible for launching new models of water coolers, Canaletas satisfies the specific needs of different clients through customized projects, which allows it to be present in very different countries in terms of usage habits and requirements. A drinking water fountain in Finland, where the water quality is very high, is not the same as in a desert area, where the climatic conditions are very demanding. Paz Ausin, director of the Canaletas Export Department, explains: “We have received projects with very rigorous requirements in competition with manufacturers from many different countries. This has allowed us to be present, for example, in prestigious universities, colleges and hospitals”.
Another aspect in which the Canaletas R&D department is highly involved is the launch of new water coolers solutions. The hands-free models stand out, offering greater hygiene in their use to respond to the demands of users regarding the hygienic safety of water dispensers.
Another aspect to highlight is the growing environmental and sustainability concern of society in the face of the large amount of plastic waste that is generated. Canaletas prefers drinking water fountains that use reusable bottles instead of cups or plastic bottles. In this sense, the general director of Canaletas Jordi Morera says that "We are proud to be able to contribute to reducing plastic with our water fountains and dispensers".
