Spain-headquartered water dispenser manufacturer Canaletas claims that demand for ‘hands-free’ water fountains has increased significantly due to hygiene concerns arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.
With ‘hands-free’ models of drinking water fountains, the water dispenser is activated by pressing a stainless steel pedal integrated on the fountain by foot, or by a remote sensor on the front, meaning the devices do not need to be touched by hand.
Canaletas claims that this increase in demand comes from Spain and several other European countries, and the company has scaled up production of ‘handsfree’ models to cater to this demand.
The firm has also developed a ‘hands-free pedal kit’, which allows customers to convert existing fountains into ‘hands-free’ units. The hands-free pedal kit is reportedly compatible with all Canaletas fountains regardless of how old they are.
A statement from the company said: “This crisis will lead to new habits of use, and it will be up to companies to focus their efforts on satisfying these needs.”
