Barcelona, Spain-based water fountain manufacturers Canaletas has signed an agreement with the city council of Figueira da Foz on the coast of Portugal, for the installation of water fountains in the city.
Figueira da Foz is tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches. After having received the quality seal for public water in 2017, the city council and its water company, Águas da Figueira, determined the need to offer free water to its inhabitants and visitors.
The Canaletas drinking water fountains have been installed along the beach promenade and sports areas, connected to the city council’s water supply. Depending on the location, some have been connected to remote cooling equipment to supply cold water. It is a unique project in Portugal, allowing consumers to have a cold water fountain available on hot days and when practicing sport.
Currently, the fountains are installed along the beach promenade and sports areas, but in the medium term, the city council has planned to extend the project to the rest of the city, reaching its outskirts.
