After the outbreak of the crisis caused by coronavirus, the water cooler manufacturing company Canaletas has noted a significant increase in demand for “hands-free” drinking water fountains which do not need to be touched by users’ hands for operation. This increase in demand comes from both Spain and different European countries.

The management of Canaletas, a company with headquarters in Barcelona and 55 years of experience, preempted this situation. “Both factory management and our sales team sensed that the new situation may entail a change in current habits, and decided to increase production of this type of fountain which does not require using hands for operation, as well as the expansion of types of models,” states Jordi Morera, Director General of Canaletas.

In this way, in addition to increasing the production of this type of drinking water fountain, Canaletas decided to expand the range, developing a specific model of fountain in record time (it is currently being commercialised) which allows bottles to be refilled, thereby eliminating the use of plastic cups and replacing it with a much more ecological solution.

In these “hands-free” models of drinking water fountains, the water is activated by pressing a stainless steel pedal integrated on the fountain, or by a remote sensor on the front. Canaletas has extensive experience with this type of fountain, as it has manufactured them for many companies for decades, above all in the food and pharmaceutical sectors, which follow very strict hygiene standards.

Canaletas believes that “This crisis will lead to new habits of use, and it will be up to companies to focus their efforts on satisfying these needs”. In turn, the Canaletas R&D department is working hard on the development of other new models and specific solutions in line with current requirements for increasing hygiene measures.
