Canaletas, a manufacturing company placed in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona) installs several of its drinking fountains in the Chopin airport.
With the installation of Canaletas drinking fountains, Chopin airport has begun to provide free drinking water for travellers. Until now, the only way to obtain drinking water was by purchasing bottles of mineral water in the shops, which could cost up to 8 or 9 Polish zloty (around 2 euros).
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection indicated that drinking water in Polish airports is expensive. In the duty-free area of Chopin airport, a half-litre bottle of mineral water costs up to 9 zloty (around 2 euros). In 2015, the European Commission ordered that the price may not exceed the equivalent of 1 euro.
From the 12th of September, free drinking fountains brand Canaletas will be found in the terminal. They are found in the area reserved for travellers; that is, after the security checkpoints in the boarding area. In the selection process, the Polish airport has taken into consideration the durability and quality of the Canaletas drinking fountains.
Following the same philosophy, in 2016 Canaletas drinking fountains were installed in 36 airports in Norway ,that cover practically all the country. Canaletas brand is also being considered as a possible for future projects for the airports in UAE and Kuwait.
