Consumption of bottled water overtakes soft drinks in 2015

A report submitted by Canadean consultant predicts that bottled water will overtake this year the soft drink consumption worldwide overcoming 230.000 million litres, while the soft drink consumption will be around 227.000 million litres.
The use of drinking fountains and water coolers support this trend, facilitating the access to fresh and purified water in many different countries and for all types of consumers.
The bottled water industry has shown a slight growth in 2014 thus breaking the negative tendency observed in the last years. According to the Canadean consultant, this trend is mainly due to health concern.
Growth in demand of ecological products
This tendency is also enforced in the water sector. Every day more and more companies of the Horeca sector are offering local and organic products and the water would not be an exception.
Although in Spain it is not common to serve tap water (not bottled water) in restaurants, hotels, cafes …etc in other countries like Italy, France, United Kingdom, United States or Canada is very usual. High-capacity drinking water fountains are commonly used in these countries in order to produce large amount of fresh and purified water to fill pitchers or bottles.
